Floris van Elderen is a drummer based in Amsterdam. He plays diverse musical genres, focusing mainly on Cuban and Brazilian Latin, Jazz and Pop.

Floris van Elderen was born in the Netherlands in 1990. He started playing drums at the age of 16. In 2018 he graduated at the jazz department from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, with Martijn Vink, Lucas van Merwijk, Marcel Serierse and Gerhard Jeltes as his main subject teachers. As side subjects he studied snare drum with Haye Jellema and percussion with Bart Fermie.

After graduation Floris developed a broad musical interest in Latin-American and African traditional music. In 2019 he spent the summer in Cuba studying rhumba, son, salsa and timba from great masters such as José Luis “Changuito” Quintana, Rodney Barreto and Ruy-Lopez Nussa. Also he visited multiple Santeria-ceremonies in order to examine the musical heritage of the Batá.

During 2020 Floris will spend the summer studying in Brazil to discover roots of Brazilian music, exposing himself to genres as Samba, Forró, Ijexa, Maracatu and many more.

Floris performed in many well-known venues and festivals, such as the Bimhuis, the Concertgebouw, the Doelen, North sea Jazz Festival, Holland Festival and the Grachtenfestival. Floris did multiple tours inside and outside of Europe.
